A Shabbat potluck

Give yourself a break from the kitchen this Friday (Jan. 13): Bring a side dish or dessert and come to Nafshenu’s musical kabbalat Shabbat service and potluck dinner. We start at 6pm at Prince of Peace church in Marlton. The pizza, salad and drinks are on us. All you have to do is sing (in key optional) for your supper. Catch up with your old Nafshenu friends!

We’re starting the new year with a new book in the Torah. This week’s portion, Shemot, is the first parasha in Exodus. We get the story of a new Egyptian king (pharaoh) who hated and feared the Israelites, whose numbers he saw as a threat to his throne. 

Our Christian friends have a similar story about king Herod fearing the birth of a boy who would overthrow him. Let’s compare the stories surrounding the births of Moses and Jesus.
