Do people really have free will? We’ll kick that question around as we look at Parashat Re'eh. This week’s portion (Deuteronomy 11:26-16:17) continues Moses’ farewell address to the Israelites in which he warns them of the moral and spiritual
dangers they face when they enter the Promised Land. You can read the text at bit.ly/NafReeh.

Midweek next week, Pearl and I are taking our granddaughter Michaela to family camp, so I'm moving Torah study up to Tuesday instead (August 15). It goes back to the regular Thursday on August
23.

A Shabbat lunch and learn is set for Saturday, August 25, at 11am. We’ll be gathering under the big top behind Prince of Peace (weather permitting – otherwise inside). Etty Lasman will speak, share thoughts and lead
a discussion of Parashat Ki Tetze. The portion is a compilation of rules for interpersonal conduct that range from edifying to horrifying to contemporary readers. It should be thought-provoking.
