Inaugurations: Then and Now
Please join Rabbi David for Torah study tonight (7-8pm). Our portion, T'tzaveh, (Exodus 27:20-30:10) continues instructions for the Tabernacle, with details about what the priests (Aaron, his sons and their descendants) should wear and how
they should be inaugurated.
Americans generally know what happens when a new president takes office. There are broad similarities (as well as notable differences) to the procedures laid down in Exodus. Unlike ancient priests, incoming presidents don't have oil poured on their heads -- or blood speared on their earlobes. But like these early religious leaders, they do take office amid elaborate rites and
ceremonies.
