Nafshenu: This week and beyond from Rabbi David Goodman Before getting started about this week, I want to thank all those who helped make last week a rich experience for the Nafshenu community, namely, those who joined on Zoom on Thursday night to talk about the Torah portion and those who gathered (in person or virtually) for a special Shabbat morning service marking the first yahrzeits of two fathers – David
Ottenberg (Larry’s dad) and Bernie Goodman (my dad). Larry and Debbie Ottenberg kindly hosted our service and kiddush/lunch.
*-*-*-*-*-*-* This Thursday (Feb. 29), Nafshenu’s Book Club meets to talk about “Coco at the Ritz,” a work of historical fiction by Gioia Diliberto based on the life of fashion pioneer Coco Chanel. Here’s a link to a review and order site:
bit.ly/NafCoco. It’s at 6:30pm. For location and other details, please text, email or call me at rebdovid@nafshenu.org or 248-508-0874.
*-*-*-*-*-*-* Because of this, we won’t be holding our regular Torah class on Thursday. Instead, I’ll talk briefly about the week’s portion – which includes the Golden Calf debacle – on Friday night (March 1) during a Zoom candle lighting,
kiddush and “say hi” session. We’ll be on from 6-6:30pm. Please join Pearl and me as we welcome in Shabbat! The link is the same one for all services and Torah study: bit.ly/NafTorah.
Israelites gone bad: the Golden Calf Image courtesy of sergeantninja.blogspot.com *-*-*-*-*-*-* Next week, we have both our regular Torah class from 7-8pm on Thursday (March 7) and a special Saturday morning (March 9) service with breakfast, sponsored by Howard and Mimi Lewis in honor of Howard’s father’s yahrzeit.
Breakfast starts at 9am, a half-hour before our normal Shabbat morning start time. The service gets underway about 10:30am and ends about noon, with kiddush. It’s at our regular space at Prince of Peace Church, plus a Zoom option: bit.ly/NafTorah. Look for registration form soon. *-*-*-*-*-*-* NAFSHENU AHEAD Purim and Passover are coming soon!
