Nafshenu Torah study: Parashat B’ha-a lot’kha/בהעלתך

 

Jewish feminists scouring the Bible for precedents uplift Miriam as a bold leader of her people. After all, she saves her little brother Moses from death and helps him find an adoptive home in Pharaoh’s court. She leads the women in song after the Israelites evade attacking Egyptian chariots and cross the sea. But when Miriam and brother Aaron question Moses’ leadership – "Has YAH only spoken through Moses? Has he not also spoken through us?" (Numbers 12:2) – God strikes her with a skin disease but lets Aaron off the hook. What are we to make of the silencing of Torah’s biggest heroine? Let’s talk about it!  Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and Nafshenu have partnered with BookSmiles to host a book drive during the month of May.  BookSmiles is a nonprofit organization that redistributes children's books to those in underserved communities in the greater South Jersey area.

We are accepting gently used and new children's books, agents infant to young adult. We are also accepting gently used/new adult books.

The drop box for donations will be located at the back door of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church throught the month of May:
