Weekly Torah Study - Thursday at 7:30 PM
Interdating and Intermarriage in the Biblical
Imagination
From revulsion to acceptance, and in between
The Torah describes worship of other gods as akin to adultery, cheating on one's spouse. The sexualization of involvement in
non-Israelite religious traditions is displayed in this week's portion, Balak. After a military victory, the Israelite begin hooking up with the Moabites, and this leads to worship of the local god, Baal Peor. The public killing of one Israelite-Moabite romantic couple soothes YAH/Adonai's anger.
Some -- but not all -- Biblical texts condemn intimate relations with members of other peoples. Join us at 7:30 PM for Nafshenu's Torah
study to examine the range of responses in our tradition with Reb Dovid (student rabbi David Goodman).

Shabbat Morning Services and Torah Talk
This Saturday, at 9:30 AM - In-person & Virtual
This is one of those Torah stories that pretty much tells itself, including a talking donkey who chastises his master for beating him. This week's parasha, Balak, begins with a king who asks the prophet Bil'am to protect his kingdom from the approaching Israelites. But instead of cursing them, Bil'am listens first to his donkey and then to God before giving the Israelites a blessing. And that blessing is now the start of our traditional morning prayers: "Mah Tovu," "How great are your
tents, O Jacob."
Join Nafshenu this Saturday morning, June 26th -- together outdoors or on Zoom -- for services and Reb Dovid's (student rabbi David Goodman) Torah discussion.
And stick around for kiddush and lunch, too!
