If you are free this evening, please join me, Rabbi David, for Nafshenu's weekly Bible study on Zoom. This week's Torah and Haftarah (Parashat Korach, Numbers 16:1-18:32, 1 Samuel 11:14-12:22) converge
on a common theme: the challenges of trying to lead the Israelites.
In the Torah, Moses faces yet another revolt, this time by Korach, who accuses the Israelites' leader of hoarding power. Why should Moses lord it over his fellow Levites, like Kofrac h?
In the Haftarah, the judge Samuel names Saul as the first king of Israel while accusing the people of lack of faith in God. The Israelites demanded a king out of fear from neighboring kingdoms, but Samuel tells them that God is their true king and protector. And Saul turns out to be the wrong person for the job.
What is it about leading the Israelites that gives Moses and Saul such headaches? Let's talk!
