Then and Now

This week, we'll be meeting face-to-face for our weekly Bible-Torah study. It's Thursday, starting at 6:30pm, at Stacey's house. Email, text or call me (rebdovid@nafshenu.org, 248-508-0874) for address and directions. WE'LL ALSO HAVE IT ON ZOOM, but you have to be there in person for the snacks, drinks and dessert. 

Don't worry if you haven't been in class before, or lately. It will be a free-standing and free-ranging look at texts related to the mourning day of Tisha B'Av, which starts Saturday night.

Tisha B'Av is a fast day marking the destruction of the First Temple in 586 BCE. We'll look at the book of Lamentations, as well as Jeremiah. 

Questions we'll ask: 

-Why still remember a tragedy that happened 2,600 years ago?

-Was the destruction of the Temple (and that of the Second Temple in 70CE) a blessing in disguise?

-Can we apply the lessons of Tisha B'Av (the Temple's fall and the observance linked to it) to address present-day crises and disasters?
