At this evening's Nafshenu Shavuot potluck and service, we have a chance to celebrate the abundance of food that we enjoy today. We also should be aware of those in our community who struggle to meet their nutrition needs.
So please bring dry or canned goods - or a check written out to Prince of Peace Food Pantry - or both. We can lend a hand to our host congregation, which does vital work to the fight against food insecurity in South Jersey.
At Shavuot, Jews traditionally read the story of Ruth, the Moabite woman who stuck loyally by her late husband's mother Naomi -- and became the great-grandmother of King David. The story is set at harvest time, when poor people were allowed to glean in the fields after the reapers were finished. Let's be like Boaz, who welcomed the
needy Ruth to glean in his fields and gained honor in the process as great-grandfather of David. Bring the gift of food for someone who needs it.
