YOM KIPPUR SIGNUP LINK

As Nafshenu moves from our warm and participatory Rosh Hashanah toward next week’s Yom Kippur observances, I want to say a few things about the Day of Atonement.

Regarding fasting, our community has a range of practices. Some people fast, some don’t, and some fast until midday. Regardless, we are all honoring the day with our shared time together and heartfelt desire to improve.

Those because of age or health who might be harmed by fasting should refrain from doing so. That’s the (Jewish) law.

Regarding attending services, we also vary. Some attend all three: Kol Nidre (6pm Wednesday), Yom Kippur morning (10am Thursday), and Ne’ilah/break fast (6pm Thursday). Some choose one or two of them. And some come Thursday in time for Yizkor, honoring our loved ones who have passed. That will be Thursday at noon. Find what's best for you.

Finally, please consider coming to our Ne’ilah at 6pm Thursday and the potluck that follows whether or not you personally fasted.
