We're now in Week 2 of the Torah reading cycle for the Hebrew year 5786.  The fast-moving account of the origins of the world takes us to parashat Noah, which contains the story of the primordial flood that God sent in response to humanity's evil
ways.

This isn't the last time that God threatens to wipe out groups of people because of their sinful behavior. We have Sodom and Gomorrah (actually wiped out) and the Israelites after the Golden Calf incident (a threat not caried out). How do tales of mass extinction play for us today? And are such punishments natural consequences of human behavior?

Please join me this evening (7-8pm) for a look at the Noah story and later parallels. -- Best wishes-Rabbi David Goodman.
