A new Hebrew month starts this Shabbat. It's Iyyar, and it gives us a chance to look at a rich passage in the book of Isaiah, read as the Haftarah when Shabbat and Rosh Chodesh (the new moon) coincide.
Isaiah Chapter 66 has words of comfort and hope that were first directed to the Jews living in exile in Babylonia 2500 years ago but speak to oppressed people to this day. And the reading offers images of the divine feminine that offer an antidote to the male-centered worldview of so much of the Bible.
So if
you can, I hope you'll join Nafshenu's weekly Bible study class. It's tonight (Thursday), April 16, 7-8pm.
Here are three links for the class:
The source sheet and readings links are worth looking at themselves, whether or not you can join the class this
week.
Best wishes to all! - Rabbi David (248-508-0874, rebdovid@nafshenu.org)
