SIGN UP FOR FRIDAY POTLUCK:
Nafshenu is getting into the summer spirit early, with a service, discussion and potluck meal. We start Friday at 6:30pm (not 6pm) to make it a little easier for people with jobs or kids or both. Give yourself a break by bringing one dish and getting a full meal! Please sign up now to let us know who's coming and what they're bringing. This week's Torah reading (B'ha'a-lot'cha, Numbers 8:1-12:6) lays out rules for Levites, the group tasked with maintaining the Tabernacle. One oddity: They had to shave their bodies.
What was that about? It's not like they had to work shirtless! A suggestion by a biblical scholar at the Jewish Theological Seminary is that shaving was seen as a way to mark a change in status. In that way, it would help Levites take up their new role as the support staff for the Israelites' new holy shrine. Let's discuss! -- Rabbi David#############Here's Nafshenu's schedule through August, followed by the High Holidays and the rest of 2026.
